What lives inside a setup.
Every setup card in your playbook is structured the same way. That structure is the whole point — reading one trader's playbook should reveal the actual decision tree, not a paragraph of vague advice.
Name and tags
What it is, what asset class it applies to, what direction (long, short, or either), and which symbols. A tag like CRYPTO · EITHER · BTCUSDT · ETHUSDT is enough for you and the AI Coach to know exactly when this setup is in scope.
Plain-English thesis
The setup in one or two sentences. "At the New York open, wait for the first 5-minute candle to finish, then trade whichever direction price breaks out of that candle's high or low." If you can't write the thesis in plain English, you don't really trade it — you only think you do.
Trigger
The single specific condition that makes the setup live. Not a vibe — a check. "Clean 15-min break of the Asian range with price holding above or below the break level for the next 30 min." The trigger is what separates a setup you can trade from a setup you can only talk about.
Pre-trade checklist
A tickable list of the things you verify before pulling the trigger. Confirm session timing. Mark the opening range. Filter oversized candles. Confirm volume surge. Size position and set stop. Toggle between Simple and Detailed, and the counter ("3 of 7") shows you what you've actually checked — not what you remember checking.
Abort If
The conditions that invalidate the setup mid-trade. Most journals never make you write these down. The playbook makes you list them up front, in red — so when one of them fires while you're holding, you don't bargain with yourself. "Volume on the breakout candle is flat or lower than the candles before it — the breakout has no fuel; exit."
Here's what one looks like once it's built — a real session setup from the AI-generated library:
- Confirm session timing
- Mark opening range boundaries
- Filter out oversized opening candles
- Confirm clean breakout candle
- Confirm strong volume surge
- Size position and set stop
- Enter and set profit targets
- Price reverses back inside the opening range — the breakout has failed; exit immediately.
- A major news headline drops at or just after 8:30 AM ET — the move is news-driven, not structural; the setup is void.
- The breakout candle closes in the middle of its range — this shows indecision, not conviction.
- Volume on the breakout candle is flat or lower than the candles before it — without a volume surge the breakout has no fuel.
Describe a setup. AI drafts the card.
Type "Asian session BTC liquidity sweep into London open, mean-revert to VWAP" — the AI Builder writes the name, the thesis, the trigger condition, a pre-trade checklist, and a list of abort conditions, structured exactly the way the rest of your playbook reads.
You can edit the draft before saving. Most people do — the AI gets you 80% of the way there, you tighten the last 20%. The point is you go from a hunch to a structured setup card in 30 seconds instead of 30 minutes of staring at a blank page.
The same builder powers the Indicator Studio. Type "Build an RSI indicator" or "EMA cross that turns amber when price is above the 200 EMA, blue below, with arrows on the cross" and the studio writes Pine v6 code, sketches a chart preview, and names the indicator with a TJ_ prefix. You can view the Pine Script, download it as a .pine file, save it to your library, or share it with another trader.
If you already have Pine you've written or collected elsewhere, import it — the indicator slots into your library next to the AI-built ones.
Grade every trade. Let the grade size the position.
Every trade you log gets graded A, B, or C — your confidence in the setup and your read of conditions at the moment of entry. The grade is not a stamp of approval applied after the fact; it's a forecast you commit to before pulling the trigger.
- A — full conviction. The setup is clean, the context aligns, you're in position to take a full risk allocation.
- B — workable but compromised. Maybe context is slightly off, or you're a little late, or session timing is borderline. Size smaller — never reaching A-level risk.
- C — opportunistic. Positive expectancy but doesn't clear the bar for committing serious capital. Smallest tier, always.
The grading system is adapted from Lance Breitstein's work on sizing discipline. The point isn't the framework — the framework is simple. The point is the discipline of keeping yourself honest about which trades are actually A's. Most account blowups happen because a trader takes B-grade conditions and B-grade convictions and sizes them like A's.
Per-setup performance, automatically.
Every trade you log gets tagged to one of your setups on the trades page. The journal counts the wins and losses against that setup the way you'd count a tournament record — over enough samples, your ORB breakout setup is either making money or it isn't, and you can read the answer instead of arguing about it.
Over a few weeks the picture sharpens. Certain setups carry your account. Others bleed it. AI Coach reads this rollup on every weekly review and flags edge decay — "your A-grade ORB setup has been a coin flip for the last 14 sessions; the B-grade reversion plays are doing the heavy lifting."
AI-built setups for every session.
Trading edge changes as the world wakes up. The Session Setups tab ships six curated, AI-generated setups for each of the five major trading sessions:
The live session is auto-selected based on your clock — the page knows London is open and shows you London-relevant setups first. Filter by asset class: All, Crypto, Index, Commodities, Forex. Each card carries its own trigger, thesis, and a "Full plan" expansion for the full checklist.
If a session setup looks useful, click Clone to My Setups, edit the parts you want to make your own, save it. You're never trapped on the AI's version — every session setup is a starting point, not a verdict.
The playbook is plugged into the rest of the journal.
The playbook isn't a tab you visit once and forget. Three connections make it the spine of the journal:
Trade tagging. When you log a trade, you pick which setup it was. That trade flows into the setup's win/loss record and into the AI Coach's context. Every trade has a parent setup; every setup has a child trade history.
Checklist adherence. Pre-trade checklists track which boxes you ticked before entering. When AI Coach finds you skipped Step 4 on seven of your last nine losses, it cites the specific trade IDs — not a generic warning, a pattern grounded in your own data.
Setup refinement. Setups aren't carved in stone. You change them as the data tells you to — tightening triggers, dropping abort conditions that never fire, splitting one fuzzy setup into two precise ones. The journal makes it possible to iterate on your edge without losing the past data.
Build your playbook in 10 minutes. Then trade against it.
